How it works

Common custody schedule patterns, explained

2-2-3

Parent A has Monday and Tuesday, Parent B has Wednesday and Thursday, and the weekend alternates between them, carrying into the following week. Each parent gets a 3-day weekend every other week, and no one goes more than a few days without seeing the kids.

2-2-5-5

Parent A always has Monday and Tuesday, Parent B always has Wednesday and Thursday. The alternating weekends create five-day blocks for each parent, while weekday anchors stay consistent.

Week on / week off

Each parent has the kids for a full week at a time. Fewer handoffs than 2-2-3, and often used once kids are old enough to be comfortable with a full week away from either parent.

Every other weekend

One parent has the kids for school weeks; the other has alternating Friday-to-Sunday weekends. Common when one parent's schedule or location makes weekday parenting time impractical.
